1 find out if you are zoned for this. #2. contact an insurance agent. #3 City, county and stqate licensing. #4. Bikes? prepare to get friendly with local cops. #5. Let everyone know you are in business. #6 UTMOST IMPORTANCE..never buy a bike without the paperwork. Not even from friends. This can open and really nasty can of legal worms. [see #4].
Are you going to work an bikes too? Ask your insurance guy about liability for that. Be prepared to be the local dumping ground for unwanted, unsellable, junk bikes. Most likesly stolen [see #4]. Our local bike salvage yard got from 3 to 10 bikes dumped at his gates at night every week. All of them worthless junk. About half stolen. Learn patience. You will be dealing with people who cant afford new parts or cant find parts for their older bikes. And kids wanting to learn.
Old farts may come parts hunting and sit and reminisce about bikes they rode and things they fixed. Listen and learn from them. A pot of free coffee can sometimes get you a lot of info not in books. And remember generosity. Black Jack ran a local wrecking yard/repair shop and was the most generous man around. Always had time for a newbie. Let you run a tab if you were short. The whole works. His funeral procession was 3,500 bikes long. good luck. ride often.

Just bought a motorcycle that is currently reg in CA with a salvage title, will I have a problem reg/ins in NY?

motorcycle ins

I bought the bike from CA for a good deal..the only issues were scraped fairings on one side and a tiny dent in the gas tank..the previous owner had it inspected and registered.. However the CA title says "salvage". I replaced all the plastic and the bikes great. Its being shipped to NY, will I have to jump through hoops to get it registered and insured here? I switched my registration and insurance to a car with a salvage title here with no problems about a year ago.. how do things go with bikes?

I want to salvage a motorcycle. Does anyone know a good, credible website?

I want to repair a motorcycle and I want to buy it at an online auction. Has anyone had any good luck with any particular site? Or do you know of one that is good? Suggestions?
well, if you crash a motorcycle, the engine could still be in perfect condition. you salvage the engine and put it in a new frame, it’s like the accident never happened. And besides, with the right materials and tools, you can fix almost anything.

Do you think it is safe to purchase a cruiser style of motorcycle from the salvage yard and eventually fixing it from the ground up. Next semester I’m taking a class on engine repair but was wondering if I should start with a new frame for the build.
