Has anyone rent a motorbike on Koh Lanta? or any other islands in Thailand?

Does it need any driver license? or international driver license??

I’ve rented motorbikes in a couple of places and all they wanted was your passport to hold until you returned the bike, which I don’t like leaving with anybody. The last time I left my driver’s license instead, but I did have an International Driver’s Permit just in case I was stopped by the police. The Thai Police will normally accept either your driver’s license from home or an IDP if you should be stopped, and it’s a good idea to bring copies of your passport if the rental company wants to keep your passport. You don’t have to have an IDP, but it doesn’t hurt to have one, I’ve shown my IDP when stopped before and they asked for nothing more. The main thing is to have some 100 baht notes to pay the “fine” if you’re stopped by the police. Have fun.

Question by Fiona F: where can i hire a harley davidson for touring california?
want to tour the west coast of USA (start point is flexible) on a Harley (or similar) in September with my husband (who has full UK bike license). At the end of the holiday we want to drive to Vegas and fly home from there (so are looking for a drop off in a seperate place from our pick up point). Having trouble finding somewhere that allows this online… does anyone know of anywhere that could help?

Call the dealership in the city you wish to start in. Some rent, some have access to rental option. Online about all you’ll probably be able to do is e-mail back and forth and save a phone call. A lot of options in CA:

Question by dsjnix: Is the only training accepted by Harley-Davidson for their mechanics at MMI?
My son has decided that he would like to be a motorcylce mechanic, even though he has never shown any interest before in mechanics. First are there tests that can help him determine if he has a mechanical aptitude? Secondly, we were advised that Manufacturers like Harley-Davidson will not hire from other tech schools-only MMI. Is that correct? Will a local school be worthless? How much can he expect to make in this type of job?

I think there are to schools, one in Florida and one in Arizona. I beleive these are the only schools approved by HD. A dealer will hire from these schools first, if they need more they will recognize other schools. I would say a top paid mechanic is maybe making $ 12 an hour. What they start out at , I don’t know.

Question by dsjnix: Will motorcycle dealers and repair shops hire mechanics with training from local Voc Tech school?
My son wants to go to MMI in order to be motorcycle mechanic. But he is getting Voc rehab with our state and they do not want to pay for MMI. They say a local voc tech school that has a diploma in Powersports equipment engine repair will be sufficient. Is this really going to be comparable to what he would get at MMI and will dealers and shops hire him with this training?

I am not to sure about the motorcycle industry but I went to a Voc Tech school and soon as I left the school the first dealership I went to put me to work. I was in the automotive industry. Once my foot was in the door the dealership even sent me for more training in a feild that they wanted me for. It does open up the doors and the school usually back up there graduates with endorsements. The catch is to go to a school that has a rep. There rep will open the doors for you. Plus score the best grades and rep you can in the school.

Question by Andy Whyte: What type of license do I need to hire a motorbike in Mexico (Cancun)?
I am visiting Cancun later this month for a holiday and really like the idea of hiring a Harley.

I am fully proficient in riding motorbikes as I have done since I was a boy. But I don’t have a motorcycle license.

I am from England and have a full UK driving license.

What are the laws in Mexico? would I be able to hire a Harley?

they will tell you at the rental place. you will not need a license
be careful though. the drivers are nuts in mexico.
