Found motorcycle insurance company in Should we use our own motorcycle insurance company or the “other guy’s”?

motorcycle insurance company:

Question by summerfreezie: Should we use our own motorcycle insurance company or the “other guy’s”?
My husband’s motorcycle was recently backed into. What do we do, use our own insurance company. I’m not even sure if we used our own company would our rates increase? I’m hesitant to go through their company because it seems that they would be shadier to people that aren’t under them. What do we do?

Answer by Michael J
If you go with your current insurance company your rates could increase. If the accident was the “other guys” fault, then you should probably go through his insurance company. You should take the bike in to a few different shops and get quotes for how much it will cost to fix. Then give it to the guy and have his insurance company pay to fix it. I wouldn’t worry about the company acting shady.

motorcycle insurance brokers and Holiday insurance broker gave incorrect info and now insurance company wont pay out.?

motorcycle insurance brokers:

Question by tink: Holiday insurance broker gave incorrect info and now insurance company wont pay out.?
When taking out holiday insurance i used the same company i have always used but this time we were taking a motorcycle holiday so i specifically asked the broker if we were covered for touring around europe on our motorcycles or if i needed to take extra cover as this isn’t an everyday joe bloggs holiday. I was placed on hold and the member of staff came back and told me i didn’t need to and asked no further details.
My partner was killed in a motorcycle accident whilst on holiday in france. the insurance company repatriated his body home but have now told me they wont pay any death benefit because the bike was over 125cc. they paid for him to come home “ex-gratia”.
But I was led to believe i was covered by the broker who obviously went and asked someone whether it be the insurance company or a collegue. Do I have a case? Whats my next move? who do i go to the insurace company or the broker? I would appreciate any info Thanks in advance

First of all, I’m sorry for your loss.

That said, it all depends on whatever paperwork you had received with regard to your policy. As things stand, if you have a standing policy with an agent – one which has been carried forward from year to year – then its terms are what will determine whether this is covered or not.

Take your policy information to a reputable attorney and let them peruse it for any loopholes or other exceptions which the insurance company may be exploiting, and if he cannot find any then press your case.

Again, I am sorry for your loss.

buy bikes being totalled by insurance company and I was thinking of buying a 2002 TL1000R that was wrecked. What should I look for? Should I still buy it?

buy bikes being totalled by insurance company:

Question by new2thisx1: I was thinking of buying a 2002 TL1000R that was wrecked. What should I look for? Should I still buy it?
I was thinking about purchasing a 2002 Tl1000R that was wrecked in 2003 and was fixed by and insurance company. There was $ 5000 in damages. I called the insurance company and she said the bike was ran off the road and mostly cosmetic damage. The gas tank was replaced the front lighting assembly and fairing. The right side fairings and some foot stays and other misc stuff. Its now January 2010 and before I looked the vin up when i seen the bike it looks brand new in perfect condition one of the nicest pre owned bikes I ever seen. The owner is asking $ 4000 for the bike. I was going to take it to get inspected cause I heard some repair shops will lose money if they total out the bike so they just fix the cosmetic parts so they can make some cash. I love the bike and TL1000R are hard to find. THe dealer said they can check it out and see what they think but I heard if you wreck a bike there could be hidden frame cracks or a crack in the engine block. Is this true. Should I pay to have the fairings taken off and thoroughly inspect the bike for hidden cracks? The bike only had a 1000 miles on it in 2003 when it was wrecked it now has 9,000 miles and looks like it just came off the showroom floor. The owner said he had a clear title and the bike was not salvaged and the insurance company did not slavage the bike when they fixed it becuase they said it was cosmetic damage. I like the bike just wondering if its a good idea to buy this bike or walk away from it.

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it:)
He did not tell me about it i checked the vin and it came up and i called the insurance company and they told me luckily. I don’t think he even knew about it he is the second owner and only had it two years. Im going to have the suzuki dealership inspect it. U don’t think they need to take the fairings off? what about on the inner part of the frame by the engine>? Can there be a crack on the inside? have u heard of that before? what about on the inside of the frame. It was a right frontal collision but who knows i seen some small cracks on the internet that were hard to see but i don’t know anything about technical bike issues. Its a nice bike and i want it im just hesitant cause of the wreck

Lots of bikes have been down. It was cool of the owner to be up-front about it. That’s not a bad price, but it’s near the top of what I would pay. If it has gone 8000 trouble-free miles since the rebuild, and it works and operates perfectly, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. All the things I would worry about are easy to see on a TL1000 without taking the bodywork off. This is a bike I would want to take for a nice long test ride before throwing down money though. Bring an experienced friend along to look at it. That’s a pretty uncommon and cool motorcycle. Good luck.

A Look at buy bikes being totalled by insurance company in Would it be better to keep making payments on my totaled car, and use insurance money for a new one?

buy bikes being totalled by insurance company:

Question by KiNG*: Would it be better to keep making payments on my totaled car, and use insurance money for a new one?
Here is the situation:

My car was stuck by a semi from the rear, and the truck driver’s company who has their own insurance company, has given me a check for the car, claiming it to be totaled.

This is where things get tricky, The company DOES NOT want my totaled car, stating the title will be delivered to the shop or person in possession of the vehicle, who happens to be me.

Now I have my car which has sever damage done in the rear driver side, and a check for the car in an amount to pay the entire loan off. The damage to the car can be fixed, and the car is drivable and also has a brand new engine.

Another twist to the story is that I am moving in a couple of months (mostly delayed by the fact that i have physical therapy to attend) And otherwise have cut off most of my ties to my current hometown, and in desperate need of a vehicle.

The vehicle i planned on purchasing next is priced at $ 5,400 but the dealer said he would give me a better deal if i decided to pay cash instead of financing. My car loan is currently $ 7,493, and the check i am receiving for the car is $ 7,700.

Now this car was my first major purchase, and besides a credit card, a cell phone, I have nothing else in my name, and did not qualify to finance the motorcycle with the price at $ 5,400 without a co-signer.

Now I am only 20 yrs old, and have had my car for 2 whole years this July. Would it be better for me to pay the loan off on the car, then try again to apply to be financed on the bike, or to take some of the payment for the car to buy the bike outright, use whats left towards the loan and continue making monthly payments of $ 230.

In my eyes either way I will have a car note, and I am moving to Hawaii (for school) So the car was never in my plans to begin with, and now I would have a payed for car that i was going to give to my dad (who owns the shop) to fix for my younger brother anyways. And I was going to ship my bike over because cost of bike + shipping is still cheaper than total cost of the bike in Hawaii.

And I don’t know much about it, but would I in any way qualify to refinance the car, say if I did make a lump payment of $ 2,000 or $ 3,000 bringing the loan down to $ 5 or $ 4,000 would that help lower payments any?

Thanks in Advance for any and all help!!

Pay off the loan. If the company that holds the loan finds out it is totaled, they will demand the entire amount immediately.

A Look at buy bikes being totalled by insurance company in Rebuild my totaled bike or buy a new bike?

buy bikes being totalled by insurance company:

Question by PsycleChic: Rebuild my totaled bike or buy a new bike?
I was hit by a car and the insurance company totaled my bike. I was thinking about getting a new bike, but now a bike builder has offered to rebuild my wrecked bike for the price of parts only, no charge for labor. It’s the front-end of the bike that needs to be replaced, from the gas tank, forward. The motor and rear-end are ok. Any advice?
The steering head is damaged, and the builder does have a another frame.
Thanks for the input guys. I am leaning towards getting a new bike. The bike builder and his wife are my best friends, and I know they want to help me out, but I don’t know that I will be able to trust a rebuild.

Answer by Dave Dick
Be very careful.
Is the frame bent or has it been subjected to excess stress which could cause a failure around the headstock?
If your builder has the equipment to check that, then you could go ahead. Personally, I wouldn’t. I just would not trust the bike. Having said that, plenty of people have done it and are happy.

Question by PhrozenPhoenix: What is a good insurance company for my motorcycle in Boston?
I have a motorcycle that I have to register in Boston.. problem is that I need to get it insured first. I know that theres a fixed insurance rate in Massachusetts so many insurance companies don’t do business in the state… does anyone know a decent company around the area?

I also wanted to know how much I would end up paying for the minimal insurance package… a few people have mentioned it coming up to around $ 200 a year, does that sound about right?
